More bad stuff for Internet Explorer
From November 20, 2004 NewsletterEarlier this month a nasty web exploit was noted and code that took advantage of it was found on the net. This one is called "IFRAME". It affects Explorer 6.0 on XP and Win2000 and is rated "Extremely critical" although it does not affect Windows XP with the SP2 update installed.
The trigger is simply visiting a web page with the piece of code
embedded in it. There is nothing else to do, your system will be
infected - with the MyDoom virus being one of the loads that is taking
advantage of the hole.
I had expected a work-around or patch to come out for this by now, but
it appears that there is still nothing yet. Several web sites, notably
in Europe, have been found to contain the compromised code which means
that someone has purposely hacked into them and put the code in place to
trap the unwary.
While I would like to be able to give you a fix, I can only say that if you are going to browse the web outside of the few sites you use on a daily basis, you should probably do it with one of the alternative web browsers - Mozilla or the newly released Firefox 1.0 see: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/all.html
Only because a site's creators have used some of the proprietary Microsoft HTML extensions and things just don't look right in another browser should you revert to IE.
