Housework is exercise
Now I've lost 50 lbs., I eat better, take some pills that slow down my liver's creation of glucose, and exercise fairly consistently.
Therein lies the problem - the exercise. I bought a weight machine and a mountain bike, and I enjoy walking but...
The exercise machine lives in the rec-room downstairs, and this has been my boys' area since we moved into this house over 13 years ago. I'd use it at my schedule, but as they grew up, more and more I would be intruding on their personal lives instead of just watching them play and do homework. Their friends (especially girl friends) would be there and so I ended up doing less on the weights. It was even worse when the girls moved in, but that's another story ;)
I spent more time on the bicycle, at least during the good weather - but that has left me with little upper body work. I'd swim more, but the weather was a little less than cooperative for most of this year and it has been cold. All sorts of "reasons" ;)
So my sons have finally moved out - and I have my weight machine back. But in the process of getting at it, I ended up spending a whole day cleaning up the rec-room, and worked up a sweat doing it. My arms were sore the next morning and even my legs had areas where muscles I didn't use cycling or walking got a workout. Hmmm... maybe I'm onto something.
