"Must Read" Compatibility Mode Confusion document for Office 2007
I know that most of my readers are still on Windows systems of some kind, and that for various reasons they must or will remain in the Microsoft camp for at least the foreseeable future. Knowing this, I keep my eyes open for information that will prove valuable to them in their quest for productivity despite their addiction to the MS drug. That's why the "Office 2007 Compatibility Mode Confusion" paper caught my eye while I was reading Groklaw (one of my own addictions :)
Of course I, along with most other open source afficionados, strongly suggest following in the footsteps of an increasing number of countries and government agencies around the world in choosing Open Office instead of the MS drug, but for those who still just can't quite kick the habit the insights offered in this paper will at least give you an indication of how much extra training and effort your staff will have to undergo to ensure compatibility with either other staff not yet on Office 2007, or with customers and suppliers and other correspondants that are ahead/behind you in upgrading.
Well worth the read, even if you don't get right into the nitty gritty but just look at where all the "broken" icons and "not as documented" notes are.
